It Started in a Shoebox. Now It Serves 20,000 Tulsa Families.
Some relationships do not start in a boardroom or at a networking event. They start at church.

My cousin attended Southeast Freewill Baptist Church here in Tulsa, and through her I met Corey Wooldridge. Life moved forward the way it does in a community where people stay and put down roots. Corey grew up, married Misty, and along the way I had the privilege of helping them sell their home. That is the kind of connection that only forms when you plant yourself in a place and let the relationships grow naturally over time.
Fast forward to today. Misty Wooldridge is now the Executive Manager at Red Crown Federal Credit Union right here in Tulsa, and she just invited me to be a guest on their podcast. I could not be more honored.
This spotlight is my way of returning the favor by introducing you to one of Tulsa's most extraordinary financial institutions and the remarkable woman who is helping lead it forward.
88 Years of Serving Tulsa: The Red Crown Federal Credit Union Story
Red Crown Federal Credit Union received its charter on February 8, 1938. If you want to understand what this institution is made of, you have to start there.
It began as a way to serve the employees of the Stanolind Oil and Gas Company in Tulsa. In its earliest days, Red Crown was run out of a shoebox in an employee's desk during the lunch hour, with members originally limited to a maximum of $500 on deposit. That is where this story starts, in a shoebox, during a lunch break, built on the simple belief that people in a community should be able to help each other financially.
Today, Red Crown Federal Credit Union serves over 20,000 members across five locations in Tulsa, Claremore, and Pryor, stewards more than $248 million in assets, and employs over 76 dedicated staff members. They have come an extraordinary distance from that shoebox, and they have never lost the community-first spirit that made someone pull it out of a desk drawer in the first place.
Who is eligible for membership at Red Crown Federal Credit Union in Tulsa?
Membership at Red Crown Federal Credit Union in Tulsa is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers, or attends school in Tulsa, Creek, Mayes, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee, Rogers, or Wagoner counties in Oklahoma.

What Red Crown Federal Credit Union Offers Tulsa Members
Red Crown is not a limited-service institution. They offer the full range of financial products a family or small business needs, delivered with the personal attention that a community credit union provides and a national bank simply cannot replicate.
For home buyers in the Tulsa area, Red Crown offers mortgage loans including fixed-rate 15 and 30-year options, adjustable rate mortgages, balloon and hybrid mortgages, and construction financing. For everyday banking they offer checking and savings accounts, money market accounts, share certificates, IRA and KEOGH retirement accounts, and a full-featured mobile banking app. For borrowers who need vehicle financing or personal loans, Red Crown's competitive rates and personalized service set them apart from the larger institutions.
Their mission statement says it simply: to be our members' only financial institution. That is not a tagline. That is a standard they hold themselves to every single day.

How Red Crown Federal Credit Union Gives Back to Tulsa
This is the part of the Red Crown story that I want every Tulsa resident to know.
Red Crown created the VETS debit card in partnership with the Coffee Bunker, a Tulsa organization that supports veterans. Every time a member uses their VETS debit card, Red Crown donates to the Coffee Bunker, and their first annual donation through that program totaled $24,000. That is not a marketing stunt. That is a financial institution putting real money behind the community it serves.
They created the Tulsa Flag debit card program, which generates donations for local nonprofits. Their most recent recipient was Little Light House, an organization that provides free services for children with special needs and their families, and Red Crown donated $11,000 through that program. They also have a Random Acts program that gives employees the ability to support local charities or individuals in need on their own initiative.
This is what it looks like when a financial institution treats its community as a stakeholder and not just a market.
Misty Wooldridge and the Podcast That Brought Us Full Circle
I want to talk about Misty for a moment because she is the reason this spotlight exists.
Misty came into my life through the most Tulsa kind of connection possible: through family, through church, through the network of relationships that forms in a community where people choose to stay and build something together. I sold her home. I watched her build her career. And now she is the Executive Manager at one of Tulsa's most trusted financial institutions, using that platform to bring people together in a new way through their podcast.
When Misty invited me to be a guest, I did not hesitate for a single second. Because that is what happens when you invest in a community for 50 years. The relationships you build in the early chapters come back around in ways you never could have planned, and they are always better than anything you could have engineered on your own.

What makes Red Crown Federal Credit Union different from a traditional bank in Tulsa?
Red Crown Federal Credit Union differs from a traditional bank in Tulsa because it is member-owned, community-focused, and structured to reinvest in the people it serves rather than external shareholders.
Credit unions like Red Crown typically offer more competitive rates on loans and savings products, lower fees, and a level of personalized service that larger national banks rarely match. Red Crown's 88-year history in Tulsa, their community giving programs including the VETS card and Tulsa Flag card, and their mission to be their members' only financial institution reflect a fundamentally different approach to banking than a profit-driven institution provides. For Tulsa families who have spent years banking with a large national institution without feeling particularly valued, Red Crown is worth a serious look.
How has Red Crown Federal Credit Union grown since it was founded in 1938?
Red Crown Federal Credit Union has grown from a shoebox operation serving oil company employees at lunch hour to a full-service financial institution with over 20,000 members, $248 million in assets, 76 staff members, and five locations across Tulsa, Claremore, and Pryor.
That growth spans 88 years and reflects a consistent commitment to the same community-first values that made someone pull that shoebox out of a desk drawer during a lunch break in 1938. The institution has expanded its membership eligibility, its product range, and its geographic footprint while maintaining the personal service and community investment that define who Red Crown is. That is not a small thing in an era when community banking is increasingly rare.
